About Us

Many people ask me how I came to start World Carousel. It is one of those stories that goes to show that sometimes things find you, without you having looked for them.
I was a volunteer for several years with Adelaide Fair Trade Inc. (AFT), a small non-profit organisation dedicated to offering an outlet in South Australia for fairly traded handicrafts from around the world, as well as being a key retailer of Fair Trade tea, coffee and chocolate.
Unfortunately, AFT ceased operations in 2005. During my time with them, I had become aware of the wonderful scope of fairly traded products that were perfect for early childhood education, particularly for multicultural education. Still wanting to be involved in fair trade, I decided to start a business concentrating on products suitable for educational purposes...and so World Carousel came into being.
I hope over the coming years to be able to source beautifully crafted products from more diverse parts of the world, to offer them to the people of Adelaide and continue to support craftspeople in need of sustainable income.
